Electric Sports CarsAs of now, there is heavy research going on how to increase the speed of your electric car without eating up much power. The current electric cars on the market are two seaters that are very small and run at not more than 50mph.

Also, the speed pickup too is very slow. Current electric cars in the market are very light and are prone to damage easily. Under such circumstances, the question arises whether the electric sports car are possible.

The answer is a big yes.

A California based company called ZAP has announced a model Alias that is scheduled to release in mid 2009. The speed pickup as stated by the company is from 0 to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds. That is quite good and almost same as the many sports cars that run on gas.

The car has two engines that can produce energy up to 320 horsepower when combined. The car can achieve a top speed of 120 mph. The company claims a non-stop run of 150 miles on a single charge.

This is just one of the models. There are many other companies working on producing electric sports car. The day is not far when we can go sports racing in electric cars.
